The Nowist Manifesto

To: Anybody and Everybody
Re: Nowism

Dear friends,

I am writing to bring to your attention a very important movement that is emerging in the art world, even as we speak (or write). The movement is Nowism, and the time to act is Now. The reason: all important movements need a manifesto. This is what we need (now): a set of contemplations, flashes of insight, words — to take Nowism to the next level.

There are no rules, there are no prerequisites. This movement grows as its numbers grow; it evolves as its proponents evolve — so don’t feel that you can’t write about nowism just because you don’t know about it. Nowism only knows as much as you know.

To write said manifesto, all I ask is for you to think of what you’re thinking right now, and to write it. It can be as long or as short as you wish. This page is intended as a forum for all Nowists to exchange their views about this important movement. Remeber, your level of knowledge on Nowism is irrelevant. What matters is what you know right now. So get started – write something!

  1. Futurism, Dada, Surrealism, Fluxus etc. There have been many manifestoes. Nowism is more important than all previous manifestos combined.

  3. Digitality threatens to destroy existing forms of material meaning. Nowism both embraces and rejects the implications of this.

Now is more important than later.

  4. I have heard what the talkers were talking….the talk of the beginning and the end,
But I do not talk of the beginning or the end.

There was never any more inception than there is now,
    Nor any more youth or age than there is now;
And will never be any more perfection than there is now,
Nor any more heaven or hell than there is now.
    NOW!

    -Walt Whitman, nowist

  5. Err. i apologise, for apologising, but I am a little confused by some kind of anxiety right now. I do like the idea though. and i felt something inside of me urging me to write something now. and it is interesting but not really surprising that what i’m writing about is somehow connected to the nowist manifesto.
in the end i guess it all started because it reminded me of a german band called notwist. so… maybe you want to hear some tunes they made. well, i’m pretty sure you’ll find them on the net.
    good topic. i like it.
it risks being too smart though.
    keep it up. cheers.

  6. Nowism is closer than the air you breath. It is nearer than a knife to the throat. It is as eternal as the space between two thoughts.

  7. Now! I have just discovered this umbrella term ‘Nowist’ 🙂 It certainly puts my views on life into a tangable yet ironically untangable category :).
I constantly change- as does everything and everyone and I think that’s why Nowism is such an appropriate way to view life 🙂 Things must develope and grow constantly- which means being flexible to any given situation.
I love learning and unlearning things and realising that yes! everything is new! It can be repeated but eventual the cycle morphs 🙂 And I relish morphing and loving how the new- now world creates the new- now me 🙂
Be sure that I will keep you updated on what is NOW in my life 🙂

  8. Now is present when I choose it. I chose so many other things before I chose now, like a dog chasing her tail, recycling the same fears of the past and hopes for the future.

    -Blasphemy indeed..!!!
‘waitism’ defeats the whole purpose of NOW..!!
With every second ‘waited’ the essence of NOW is denied and therefore life is merely pictures in the mind of past and future- open your eyes and look at NOW..!!

  10. Precisely! The question is not, “how now?” It is “how not now?” The answer is “never not now.” We are not past; we are not future. Without Nowism we are lost. For instance,
    NOW NOW NOW

  11. Nowism is about changing the future…and I would hope, for the better. NOW Palestine is still an occupied country, and it would be a good start to the future if we could resolve this in a way that led to peace between Palestine and Israel.

So it’s not easy then. But it’s not impossible. They could start by actually trying.

Clearly a peace keeping force is currently necessary, borders needs to be clearly defined…starting with how it is today and negotiations can proceed with any disputes of land, bearing in mind that Israel has been unfairly, and against international law, continued to increase settlements. I believe only the Arab League could patrol these borders safely, and with the respect that is clearly not there now.

Can anyone imagine Israel allowing that? But I say they’ve got to start somewhere. They’ve got to reach out sometime, otherwise the circle of violence will continue ad infinitum.

    And don’t hit children

  12. Reality is the faith eternity isn’t now for every generation passing through this singularity of space time balanced between was and what becomes of the actions being reacted to by all the results here, now never staying the same details compounded twice into the same DNA end result.
